We are one week away from the debut of House of Fifty online magazine!  For this entire week, my post will be all about the magazine.  Today I want to tell you why I personally love it so much… Because it’s NEW! To give you an idea of the eZine, it’s more than just décor.  House of Fifty combines our love of exercise, décor, fashion, organization, art, books, etc., in hopes to inspire you live your best life!

A DRESSER REVEAL?

I know this post is kind of impromptu since you guys didn’t know I was even working on another dresser!  Well, it was a spur of the moment job.  I was out cleaning the garage and when I moved the dresser

(This is the dresser after I sprayed greased lightening on it!)

I figured I would start working on it so I can move it out of the garage.  I actually tweeted the process and shared a few tips on how I paint furniture.  Do you follow me on Twitter?  Speaking of twitter, do you follow House of Fifty on Twitter (Shameless plug!)?

I apologize for the pictures.  I swear my pictures are getting worse and worse these days…

Everyone wants to know the color green I used and I’m sorry to say that this was an oops paint from Home Depot.  I have no idea.  It’s sort of a sage green.  I wish it was a little more lime, but it works with the ikat fabric that I’m using in the room so I’m happy!

GOODWILL HUNTING….again!

Hi guys! I’m back with another post with some of my latest Goodwill finds! I swear I need to stay away from thrifting a while….Anyway, here are my latest treasures!

 

I found four of these chairs for $3.93 each!!!

They are very similar to the one’s Dayka has for sell except mine has a fabric seat!  Don’t you love the yellow?  I think mine may see a shade of blue or green!

This is a Robert Allen fabric that I can not get a good picture of.  It really is nice.  I love the shades of green, khaki, and plum.  Well for $2.60 for a little more than three yards, it was a great buy!

Two random chairs! Not sure where they are going, but I think yellow would work great on them! I need to figure out a great fabric…

Love this cute little lamp….not in love with the shade.  That’s an easy fix.  Not sure what I’m going to use it for, but for less than 3 bucks, it was worth bringing home!

And before I forget, remember these?

When I posted about them and some of you said I should have gotten them, I went back and they were half off!!! I got them for $3.00!

I think I’m going on a thrift store diet! Until I figure out what I’m going to do with everything I have right now, I’m not buying anything else….I hope

What have you found lately?!

BECAUSE OF YOU

Because of you, I was able to purchase all of this for my room for Room Service Atlanta!

From pillows and hangers, to bedding and lamps, because of you guys, in one week I was able to purchase about 70% of the things I need for the space!

So now, lets get down to the nitty gritty with the plan for the space!

As far as the bedding for the bunk beds, I’m going with the HENNY CIRKEL duvet from Ikea for $14.99

 

 

For the mother, I’m thinking a white duvet along with this coverlet from Target. 

Have you guys seen the blue and white items at Target? That is the inspiration for this room! As a matter of fact, here is a picture that I snapped while shopping that I have been carrying around for a while.  I have had a love affair with navy for a while and now I finally have a space to use the color!

okay, back to the room! My plan is to go all out (well, really but not really!), for the mother’s space.  From bedding to accessories, I want her side of the room to be a little bit more luxurious in a way.  My thoughts are this, the parent is the one who has the stress everyday.  From finding a job, to making sure the kids are happy.  Kids, on the other hand, are happy go lucky and usually don’t have a care in the world…especially when they have happy parents.  I can only imagine the level of stress that this mother deals with daily.  I figure if I do EVERYTHING I can to make the mother feel better about her situation, in return I will create a happier parent and a happy parent have happy kids….A win win for EVERYONE!

I have a nightstand that I plan to paint and add new hardware to, I have picture frames that I found at Goodwill that will be painted white.   I’m sure they need more storage, so my plan is to purchase storage containers for under the beds (3 in all) like these.  

I have finally found the perfect color! It’s called true navy by Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart! Now, if I can get that color matched perfectly at Home Depot, I can use another gift card

PURPLE PASSION

 

If you follow me on Pinterest or twitter, then you’ve probably noticed that I’m contemplating using the color purple in my bedroom

 

I love that the above space has brown walls with pops of purple especially since my room is already brown!

Purple has always been one of my favorite colors (my birthstone is Amethyst!).  I just never considered using it in my home

But what I’ve realized is that any color can look great in a space as long as it’s done right!

After a quick trip to Ikea yesterday, I noticed that they have added a few purple textiles to their inventory (should have taken pictures!)

This means that I can possibly add this color to my space without breaking the bank!  hmmm…now what color should I paint this dresser?

Definitely not purple!

 

ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE

 

Last week while visiting my sister in law, I spotted this mirror on the wall

I immediately thought of the one Dayka used in this photo shoot

So I said, uhh…Hiromi, Can I have that mirror? I was joking in a no I’m serious kind of way and who would have thought she would say YES!!!! Actually she said “you like that? Yeah you can have it.  I don’t like it”!

WHAT??????

I didn’t say a word but Okay!!!

What’s funny is that this mirror hung in my mother in laws entryway for YEARS!!!! Who knew

ASKING FOR HELP!

As you guys know, I have joined the team of Room Service Atlanta and I’m volunteering my services of decorating a room for a family 5.

But did you know that everything needed to design the space is funded by me as well?

My room consists of two sets of bunk beds and one full or queen size bed.

A mother and her four kids reside in this space and my plan is to make it feel as comfortable and beautiful as I possibly can!

Is it Nate Berkus or Oprah that says when you enter your home, it should rise up to greet you? That is the approach I’m taking with this space. I want every time they turn the doorknob to this room to be a wow experience! An experience where even though they don’t have their own residence, they feel good enough to come home to this space.

Here is where you guys come in

Would you like to donate to my project to help me make my thoughts and ideas for the space a reality?! I know that you hear the phrase “Every little bit helps” a lot, but in this situation it really does! I am not taking a high end approach to decorating this space (just a high end look!).

For example, for the bunkbeds, Walmart has $5 fitted sheets. A donation of five bucks can help me make a bed! But if you’re feeling very generous a donation of $20 can help me make all four

Do you have any Home Depot or Lowe’s gift cards that you really don’t have a use for at the moment? A donated home improvement store gift card could help me purchase paint or primer! Or how about a gift card that has already been used and has like a $7 remaining balance? Perfect! I can get a roll of painters tape

Don’t have anything monetary to give? That’s fine as well. One of my blog friends, Karen, reached out to me to let me know that her sister would love to make a quilt for the space (I love blogging!)! That brings me to this, do you have a skill like sewing? I can send fabric to you for pillow covers!

And one last thing, if none of the above works for you, what about lending a hand?! If you are in the Atlanta area or will be the week of April 25th-29th, come out and lend me a hand or two! Again, EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS!

I would never ask you to give to something that I wouldn’t give to. I really believe that this is a worthy cause because everyone deserves to be happy in the space they have no matter what the situation is. I don’t know this family’s story, but if I can help make it better, hopefully I can help make the next chapter of it better!
