MY CURRENT PROJECT

I have been a little busy around these parts…  It’s time for me to finish up a few painting projects before I can move on to other things I need to do like start on family room, or paint my kitchen cabinets AGAIN.

The first project that I’m starting on is painting the rails that are currently honey oak

hallway 013

I really should have finished this a long time ago.  But for some reason, these kind of painting projects intimidate me.  I can take on an entire downstairs living area with no problem, but I do not like the smaller more tedious paint projects.

hallway 015

As you can see, paint drips all over this one! I’m just a slacker sometimesWinking smile

Anyway, I got out my supplies

hallway 019

I think every project I do includes something I’ve found on clearance!

I used tinted oil based primer because the paint I’m using is a really dark brown

hallway 020

Espresso Beans by Behr Paint from Home Depot.  It’s the paint and primer in one, but I use primer with this stuff anyway…

Anyway, after a good sanding and wiping and taping of the area I’m working on first, I began to prime

Then I let the primer dry overnight before I sanded it a little and started painting

hallway 044

It was kind of hard to get a good picture of the dark color

While that side was drying, I had to hurry and get the other side sanded and primed before it was time to pick up the boys from school

I’ll show the finished stairway probably next week…I have to do the kitchen too.. Now that is going to be a pain!

A TRAGEDY WORTHY OF ATTENTION

I’m pretty sure that you guys know about what is going on in Japan.

This certainly hit close to home given the fact that I have a brother in law, sister in law, and two nephews there right now.

I never thought that I would have to justify the U.S helping people in need, but after hearing  “we need to sit this one out”  or smart remarks like “Haiti is still rebuilding”, I just had to say something.

Yes, I understand that we have our own problems right now, but what ever happened to when a friend is in need, you help?  You help because that is just the right thing to do.  You help because that is the human way.  And what is killing me with this is that these people are Christians

Thankfully, my family members are okay (last I heard from them 18hrs ago), but there are THOUSANDS or MILLIONS of people who aren’t. Now why would someone ever say lets not worry about this crises?

Janell wrote a post today on different ways to help donate.  I’m sorry, but this is not that kind of post.  My post is more so on the lines of, If you’re not going to help, or you don’t have anything positive to say on the matter, then I politely ask for you to

SHUT UP…

TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES OR CLEAN MY FLOORS

Do you ask friends and family members to remove their shoes when entering your home?

I was having a conversation with Tonia of Chic Modern Vintage about this topic the other day. I’ve never done it myself, but have been to friends homes where they ask for the removal of your shoes.

She told me that a family member even go as far as having socks and slippers for her guests to put on. AND she even supply foot spray and powders if you have “feet problems”. Now me personally, I think that’s a little too far! But I do like the idea of having different socks or slippers for guests that are washed afterwards.

I’ve given it much thought and now I’m going to do this in my own home. The only problem is that I don’t want this

So to those of you who already have this rule in your home, or are contemplating it, what do you do to keep the space tidy where the shoes are left at the door by guests?

DECORATING WITH BOOKS: Reader’s Digest

One day I hope to have bookcases that flanks a fireplace or even a stretch of bookcases on a single wall filled with lots of books and knick knacks that make me smile every time I see it! But, unfortunately, I don’t have space at the moment so I have to display my books on top of dressers or end tables.

Don’t let the paper covers fool you!

My current obsession in books are vintage Reader’s Digests. I’ve started collecting them mostly because of my love for their covers.

And not to mention the stories that are in them

You can find these at thrift shops and Goodwills. Or my favorite, Etsy!

These are the young readers edition which I love because they have more stories that I am familiar with. But the other editions are just as great!

These (below) are found in my friend Rene’s Etsy shop

I don’t know about you, but doesn’t these remind you of the Penguin books found at Anthropology?

By the way, aren’t the colors perfect with my Goodwill art?!

Yeah I love them!

Have you ever considered collecting Reader Digest Books?!

FINALLY, A DRESSER REVEAL!

I’m late posting today, but I am just too excited to reveal the finished dresser with you! Remember what color it was

064

Many of you liked the blue color (including me!), but because I plan to move this dresser to my bedroom, I needed it to be lighter.

Furniture Makeover 020

After a coat of primer and some of my trim paint (aesthetic white by Sherwin Williams), and lets knot forget these lovely pulls

I now have this

nick b-day, white dresser, etc 016

It was kinda hard for me to get a good picture with this liitle guy scooting around on the floor!

nick b-day, white dresser, etc 024

Not to mention that it is storming out so I don’t have good natural light…

Here is a close up of the knobs. I absolutely adore them! Brass is back, not whack!

Again, this dresser is making its way upstairs. However, if I do decide to leave it where it is, I will replace the mirror with this one painted gold! Better scale…ya know?!

So, what do you think? Do you still prefer the blue?!

ARE YOU READY???

I’m not, but I’m getting there!

I am very excited and nervous at the same time to announce the start of my own business.  I want to get a portfolio together before I start taking on clients.  My home will be my starting point and maybe a few relatives.

I have been very inspired by a few blogs I follow of women that decided to just go for it!

I DO NOT LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM

I do not like them, Sam I Am

green eggs and ham 028

Today is Dr. Seuss Birthday and if you follow me on twitter or Facebook then you know that I made green eggs and ham this morning for my son’s class!

I must admit that my son was a little skeptical about this whole thing, but at the end of the day he was saying:

I do like them Sam I Am, I do like green eggs and ham!

And before I forget, today is also my son Nick 5th birthday!

I tell ya, that liitle boy keeps me rolling!

Hope you guys had a fabulous Tuesday!
