BIG BOY BEDROOM: Lighting

Hi guys! I hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend! I had a blast. Although we did not make it to see any fireworks, I had a great time with family here at my house. And the first thing my son did as guests arrived was show them his room! I, of course was all smiles until I thought about what I haven’t changed in the room

Oh the horror. I wondered if they even noticed the room. Or did the fan take center stage? Okay, maybe no one noticed the fan! But, I do. Every time I enter the room I look up. I’ve been sourcing light fixtures to replace the fan and here are a few that I’ve considered

I thought this would make for a cool fixture

I always wanted to try to make a light fixture. But, I’m not sure if I’m up to a project (at this moment!).

But then I saw this at Red Lobster while out to dinner with the boys

Now I’m thinking the “interrogation” light fixture is a contender!

IMG00160-20100512-1358[1] (2) I like these (above), but I think it may give off too much light in the space. It reminds me of the fisherman's ceiling lamp from Pottery Barn. Maybe I can put it on a dimmer…

A lot of people think these are too feminine, but I think they’re cool. TJ likes them too!

And when I saw it being used in this room, I thought heck yeah it could work in a boys room!

I don’t know. There are so many options out there and any of them would be better than that ceiling fan. Hopefully I can make my decision by Friday. Hopefully…..

Your son is becoming a little design star. I really like the Artichoke looking one too. I can't wait to which one you pick.

Ha, the "interrogation" light looks pretty cool painted! Some great choices, I liked reading through the list of your options and hearing your thoughts on each. It must make you feel great that your son wanted to show off his room!! Janell

I really like the industrial ones, and I think Knappa pendants are great - not feminine in my mind, instead, more of a classic!

I asked my son if he liked the light from home depot too - lol when he and I were shopping over the weekend - he said it looked like a garage light, lol

The fisherman's style lights are cute, maybe put it on a dimmer or use a spray paint frost for the glass part?

My son found a light he likes at Ikea - love that store so many lights

I have those fans. While you're waiting, I'd flip the blades over to the white side. It helps it disappear into the ceiling a little more.

Have you considered finding a nicer fan or are you def going with a fixture? I'm always so torn when it comes to ceiling fans. LOVE a fan but hate how 98% of them look.

I hate ceiling fans... so I'm loving this post :).

I think that TJ knows what he's talking about, let him pick his favorite!
