VINTAGE FANS

Yesterday I told you that I was taking down the ceiling fan in the Big Boy bedroom

Well today I’m here to say that I will be adding a fan to the room! I know you’re thinking that doesn’t make sense, but hear me out. I removed my ceiling fan and replaced it with this beautiful chandelier

master bedroom 086 But, I must confess, it gets hot in my bedroom. Yes we have air condition, but with Georgia’s heat (95+), my A/C throws in the towel sometimes! I told you the other day that it completely went out on us (we had it fixed!). So although I am a lover of a nice light fixture I am also a lover of cool breezes when I’m asleep and so are my kids;-)

With all of that said, lets get to the point and talk about my love for vintage fans. I like the look of vintage fans. I passed one up at an estate sale a few months back and have been kicking myself ever since.

To solve that problem in the Big Boy room, I went out and purchased this

I think it ties in well with the room. I purchased this one from Walmart for $28. I know a lot of you don’t like to shop at walmart, but there are other places that carry “vintage” fans

I really like these (above). They are $69 and they also come in white, chrome, and I think black! I may have to get one for Nick and Brens room! Target also carry them for about $50 (by Hunter). And I’m pretty sure you can find them at a home improvement store too!

What I like about the replica vintage fans is that they aren’t “finger slicers”!

If I ever find another “REAL” vintage fan, it will most likely be for show…

This is a way to have your cake and eat it too! This fan can easily be put away when it’s not in use. And when you need a cool breeze, you can just pull it out. Never have to worry about compromising on good design again and it’s a lot better than the plastic box fans;-)

What do you think? Do you like these fans? Or, do you not like a fan period regardless of what type or where its from?! I’d love to hear what you have to say on this matter!

I really like they way these look in a room. I think it's a great alternative to a ceiling fan. I know, however, that my husband wouldn't hear of changing out the ceiling fan in our bedroom. :(

I love the look of fans, and the one you found looks great in the room...and at Walmart?!? Awesome sourcing! Form meets Function! I really appreciate that its wires are so close together, fans do make me nervous with kids around. The vintage ones you've shown, wow, I'd be afraid to turn them on. That's a mom talking for you!!

I think its a great idea! I know what you mean about hot heat, we deal with 100+ degree weather where we live in N. Ca.

I've been wanting to add a vintage fans to our bedroom - love that you found it at Wal-Mart for a great price!

Love the vintage fan style. -- and I was wondering how you'd get by in Atlanta without some kind of fan!

This is an interesting post... I see so many blogs featuring makeover rooms where the designer talks about getting rid of the ceiling fan to replace it with a beautiful chandy, like it's a no-brainer, and I can certainly agree about getting rid of a particular ceiling fan if it's a really ugly one, but to not even consider a prettier replacement? So I was really interested when I saw this post and had to comment. A ceiling fan is just so practical to cool down a room; there must be some that can work into a design. I've seen Candace Olsen use some really cool ones. Or what about keeping a ceiling fan (a nice one, of course), and hanging a pretty chandelier over a seating area or something? Best of both worlds. Anyway, glad to see you've found a solution that works for you. Keep going, girl!
Love,

I have a real vintage fan - decor item only - don't even know if it works but it sure looks great. Have a great weekend!
