Room Service Atlanta Project

Hi guys! This is my third post today so I hope you’re not tired of me yet!

Today I want and NEED to talk about my room for Room Service Atlanta. You may remember my post where I showed you guys my room

Well, come to find out, that was not my room. This is my room

The install for this room takes place all next week. And to just now be finding out this information really left me overwhelmed. I have cried 4 times today. It wouldn’t be right to not be honest with you guys and say that I didn’t want to back away from the project and refund all donations received. But you know what? I have friends and family that really believe in me. I am determined to do whatever I can to the best of my ability to make this space better for this family. I read a quote today from twitter that said

“The talent of success is nothing more than doing what you can do well and doing well whatever you do” ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This is nothing short of the truth!

And let me say for the record, I’m not overwhelmed because of the space itself (not completely!). I’m overwhelmed because for weeks I have thought and planned a space that didn’t even belong to me, but to someone else. I have a few days to figure out a totally different route for this space. I have enlisted the help of a great designer friend and DIY genius, April Denise. We are coming up with plans for the space but we need more help. This room needs A LOT of storage

like, I;’m not even kidding about the storage needs

I know that I have already asked for donations (and believe me, I’m beyond appreciative for the donations I received!), but I really need a little more help. Any amount would be wonderful and seriously appreciated. $1, $5, $30…Anything, honestly! My major concern right now is storage which I plan to bring in under bed storage containers. I may also have to purchase a chest of drawers or two and I doubt I will be able to find them last minute at a thrift store. I have a lot to figure out for this space, but with your help, I know it will be a success! Also, let me say that I have been using my own money too! I don’t want anyone to think that I’m trying not to come out of pocket much. It is just taking A LOT!

Thank You so much for your support!

LaKeitha... take a deep breath... Now doesn't that feel better!

You can do it and you have plenty of support behind you including Muah...

You have no idea of the IMPACT that will be made on the lives of this family. If our Daddy thought that you couldn't do it then you would not have this task...

So smile!!! :)

HI, Lakeitha, I mentioned on Twitter that I'll be glad to help you as much as I can with actually doing some of the work next week. I told Erika I will show up & be ready to help out, so I will do that. I have a metal bookcase that I can donate. It's not beautiful, but a coat of spray paint would make it look much better. I'll bring that with me, if you think it is needed! WE DIYer's gotta stick together. :)

Thought you might get a kick out of seeing the room I did last year (with some help from friends) at a women's center in Birmingham. I was really happy with the way it came out & the pics show the Before & Afters! It will come together, you just wait.

Girl, if I had time to go yardsaling we could find lots more stuff. That's how I did this room on a tight budget!

You are doing a wonderful thing, and everything you are feeling simply shows how much you care.

Oh Lakeitha, that must be so overwhelming. If you can handle the pressures of raising three small children, you've got this.

Best of luck and I look forward to seeing your finished room.

@April Denise - You are so right! I'm not sure or why or how the room got caught up in the "SwitchARoo!" But this is just a test of your faith and you will prevail. Be encouraged by one of my favorite scripture (Phil 1:6, NIV) He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. If you hadn't talked me into staying in grad school, I would be graduating as Dr. Duncan! YOU CAN DO THIS! And be thankful and pray for your Frienemies cause they don't really know who yo DADDY! You will be rewarded!
