FAMILY ROOM: Planning the Space

Monday I shared with you my family room painted Sherwin Williams “Accessible Beige” .  Tuesday, you were able to see the color scheme and the fabric that I’m using.  Today I wanted to talk about the needs for the space.

009

Walking down the steps to the family room to the right you will see the door to the backyard and about a third of wall space.

019

Against that wall I think some sort of storage would be perfect.  Right now I’m thinking either the closet maid cubes found at Target

005

007

Or the Expidit bookcase turned on its side

The sofa will sit there where it is and I’m on the look out for a coffee table

hemnes-coffee-table-brown__0104030_PE250678_S4

I like the Hemnes coffee table from IKEA is a good choice because of the shelf that I can place baskets on (more storage!).

You may be wondering everything is coming from IKEA, that’s because of this

blogging my truth 015

Enough said!

I also need more seating so I’m considering bringing in two tullsta chairs.   I would love to have them slipcovered! I may have to look into that.

Moving on to the where my “vintage” t.v and computer sit, I will be removing both of those to place a wall unit there for a 50 inch flat screen…

018

Usually the t.v would be placed over the fireplace, but this is a small space and we the boys need more room to play the Wii!

015

Other items that I have not decided on include

side tables

rug (found one I like at west elm)

lamps

ceiling light fixture (another ceiling fan)

storage baskets

what to put over the fireplace

I’ll talk more about this space next week!

I have a question to ask: What do you guys think of accent walls?  I’ve been looking at the color of the space and feel like the wall where the t.v and computer currently sits would look cool painted a nice shade of blue.  What do you think?

FAMILY ROOM INSPIRATION

Yesterday I shared with you my family room painted Sherwin William’s Accessible Beige. Today, I wanted to show you a few of my inspiration pictures.

001

I was originally planning the design for my master bathroom when I fell in love with this beautiful Ikat fabric by Robert Allen named Khanjali in Glacier. It was perfect with my clearance shower curtain that I found at Target a few months back. While getting excited about that space, I thought that instead of focusing on another room that does not benefit our family as a whole, I’ll focus on a room that we all hang in—the family room!

009

This is the room that we gather in as a family and it is about time it received some love! So with this room on my radar, I started looking for inspiration for the space. It has to be kid friendly and it has to make mommy (and daddy) happy. Not wanting to put the use of this amazing fabric on hold, I’m using it as my starting point for the design of the space.

021

The stripe fabric was found at Hobby Lobby for $4 a yard! I purchased all 6 they had!

014

You may not be able to tell the true colors, but it has the prettiest shade of blue and a yellow/greenish color in it along with beige and an off-whit background.

Here are the rooms that I like that feature those colors

My color scheme for the room is blue and green. Again, I’m not sure if it’s the weather or what, but I’m feeling colors that are fresh and springy! The room must be both sophisticated enough for adults friendly enough for the kids. I can tell you now, I have my work cut out for me!!!

Now that you know my color scheme for the room, next I’ll share with you my plans and what I need for the room.

Before I go, I wanted to give a HUGE thanks to Dorothy and Sandra over at Calico Corners in Dunwoody! That is where I purchased the ikat fabric because it was a lot cheaper than at any other place I found! Plus they were so helpful. Oh and get this, where else do you know of that as soon as you walk into a store you’re greeted by name? Not because I shop there a lot, but because they read blogs!!! How cool is that?! I have never been so excited in my life to hear my name. Not only did she mention me, but she “knew Janell, Erika, Dayka, Cristi, Brian, and Claire! All of the fabulous Atlanta bloggers (well, except for Janell!).

So if you’re in need of great fabric selections and you’re in the Atlanta area, PLEASE stop by Calico Corners in Dunwoody and ask for Dorothy or Sandra! Tell them Lakeitha sent youSmile

The first two images are unknown (please let me know if you know the source!)

The last five are all Candice Olson Designs!

ACCESSIBLE BEIGE

First I would like to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday! It was great! Like seriously!

I decided to go ahead and show you the family room painted Sherwin William’s Accessible Beige. Let me warn you, this room is a work in progress. But I figure, what’s a after without a terrible before so here goes…

009

This room is sure to be a challenge.

012

I have the fireplace, a window, and a door on one wall.

016

Then on the other wall, I have the powder room and the laundry closet that I painted the same color as the wall to somewhat mask it. I do need to paint the door to the bathroom as with a few other doors in the house!

017

013

You may have noticed the fabric on the sofa and against the wall… I’ll talk more about that later!

021

008

019

There is a lot that is needed to make this room functional for our family. Storage, seating, and more furniture are the major needs and I’ll start talking more about that. Tomorrow I’ll share my inspiration for the room and you’ll also see the color scheme. So there you have it, my beige family roomWinking smile

FEELING SO GOOD

Hi guys! I'm getting over a terrible cold, but I must say that I feel so good! Sunday is my birthday and I'll be 28 years old....Old, huh?! A lot of things have changed for me since my last birthday. Actually, not a lot of things, just me. This year will be all about making my dreams come true. Well, this year will be the first year of me making my dreams come true for the rest of my life! I use to ask myself who am I to try and be ______? or who am I to try to do ______? This year, I ask myself WHO AM I NOT TO DO ____? and WHO AM I NOT TO BE_____?

I have a few things that I'll be sharing with you in the upcoming months. Things that every time I think about them or take the next step, scares me to death. But at the end of the day, I get them done. If it doesn't scare you to do what you REALLY want to do then you shouldn't do it!

Here is a song that I listen to every single day that gets me going. Because after all, "Its a new dawn, It's a new day, It's a new life...and I'm feeling GOOD"!

Happy Friday!

While returning a fabric swatch to Joann’s the other day, I noticed some pretty neat pieces that would look great

These little tables would cute in a child’s room or any room for that matter! I may have to snatch one up. When I was there the price was 50% off of the $40 price tag. Seriously, that’s not badSmile
