DO YOU SETTLE?

Months ago I mentioned that I wanted to spruce up my back patio (if I can call it that!). I listed a few things that I could buy that were budget friendly and could hold me over until I was able to get what I really wanted. So as many projects I plan to do around the house, it was put on hold. But as I noticed stores clearing out their summer items, I went ahead and snatched a few things up like:

These chairs that were down to $26 each

This table that was $36

This garden stool that was $21

and a few pillows (in blue) that were $3.24 each

Yes they were all great deals, but like I said, they will be used until I get what I really want. My question is this: Do you purchase things to hold you over until you get what you want? Or, do you put that money to the side to put towards what you really want?

I always wait for what I really want.

Great question! I think I'm in transition, when we bought our first home we had virtually nothing to put it in and I did a lot of purchasing of the best deals I could find. I still do that, but am also slowly being patient to find and save for items that really speak to me.

BTW, your patio pieces look great and came with great prices! Janell

I have to agree with Janell. Our home we are in now is our first home together and I bought the best deals but now that we are planning on building a new home, I definitely will be taking my time on my purchases and holding off until I can buy the things I really want.

Would you mind telling us the stores where you found these great summer items? They're all steals! And I'm more of a save-and-wait, unless I'm antsy to fill a room :)

Depends on what it is. Big purchases - yes. I had patio doors that went to no where for 5 years because I refused to let my husband build the 8x10 deck to "get us thru". After saving for 5 years, I had the money to put on the 12 x 44 deck that I had always wanted there, and am SO glad I waited. You got some great deals though, so I can see why you gave in. I especially like the pillows - you can't make them for that! Have a great day! Sandi

It depends on what it is and what room it's for.
I think patio furniture for hold over at the prices you got is ok.
But I wouldn't do holdover, beds, couches, etc.

I definitely just bought a super cheap rug for my living room, just so I could have one. I know that I won't be bale to afford the one I want, so why wait?

Still, if I somehow got a big wad of cash tomorrow - I'd throw the cheap rug out and get what I want! haha

lucky you, all the stores in my area of cleared out their summer stuff! I was hoping for deals :)

It depends on what the item is for, our patio is still a blank slate after two summers :( I saw a few style but nothing I really love, so I'm waiting for next year and saving up so we can buy a nice set next Spring that will last years and years nothing to crazy expensive though....

I'm trying to be patient and wait and save until I can afford to buy what I really want, but I still manage to find myself buying "for now" pieces.

That outdoor coffee table is great, though, esp. for $39!

I NEVER settle. No matter what it is. I am a proponent of getting excactly what I want. If what I desire is out of my price range...I look elsewhere.

I think you should just stay conscious of where you are financially and be reasonable.

I'm more of a save and wait. I'd like to buy things to hold me over, but I think my hubby would kill me if I bought hold over items and the items I really want lol

I like to buy exactly what I want, but sometimes its really hard to pass up on a great price. I always seem to buy the clearanced price because im so frugal. Sometimes waiting and saving is best that way you are happy with your purchase.
Good Luck !

Those were really great buys. Did you have other furniture in mind? What was the alternative?

I think I combine both. I guess it depends of the piece. I got my coffee table at GW because the little guy plays cars on top of it and the other boys (including hubs) may put their feet on top of it. For my bedroom set, I waited for what I really wanted.

I just bought that coffee table (and loveseat, side table...etc) set and love it. I think I got them at 50% off. I love it and the price is great. I love high quality/pricey items but love to bargain hunt. I love Ross, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Nordstrom Rack. I only use what I love (maybe that's why home is so minimalistic)?

I do settle in the meantime things but not for big purchases like living room furniture, beds etc. I save up for those.
