$30 A WEEK ROOM MAKEOVER

Do you guys watch the Nate Berkus show?  I have to admit that I never have a chance to catch it and I don’t have TiVo so if I do see an episode or shall I say clip from the show, its usually on his website.

I was on Pinterest this morning and came across a dining room and when I clicked on the source, it took me to the Nate Show website.  Of course I got to clicking through the site and I came across this clip about Nate showing a guest how to decorate a space with $30 a week.  What the smurf?!?! I can do that!!! And I think if I did it this way, I can actually complete my family room! AND I think that if my husband sees me putting the room together slowly but surely, he’ll pitch in and add the flatscreen and new carpet.

Did you watch the clip? Come on, click on the clip. I’ll wait

Ok, see what I’m talking about?  I bet we all can do this for at least one room in our house, right??? Because many of the pieces I want for my living room are from Ikea, this plan is PERFECT for my family room.  Shoot, it would even work for my bedroom and the boys room.  What about a Master bathroom? This may be the way I decorate for now on! And because I am a DIY’er, I’m sure it would take me no time because everything won’t have to be new!  Now it’s just a matter of staying focused.  Y’all know I bounce around a bit (ok, A LOT!!).

So do you think you can put a room together on $30 a week?  Who’s down for a challenge? That would be FUN!

Happy Saturday guys!

CORAL IS THE NEW PINK!

Well, not really.  But it’s a color I’m currently digging right now! Not only is it gracing my nails at the moment, but I darkened it up a tad and used it in my home.  Can you spy where?!

I’m currently sprucing up the living room and I felt like it desperately needed a dose of color.

And I know what you're thinking.  And yes, once the door is closed, you can’t see that color.  Well, that’s why I’m painting the back, too!

Oh and I can’t stop looking at my “before and after” chair

I love it so much!

Today was Field Day for my boys and I was there all day.  So much fun, I tell you!

Soooo…. Are you digging coral?!?!

MY HAPPY AND BRIGHT SPACE

Howdy guys! Sorry for my absence. There were a few personal things I had to deal with. I’m excited to talk about what I have been doing aside from all the other things going on.

For the past few days, I’ve been doing a little outdoor painting.  I found three of these chairs for a steal months ago. I figured they would be perfect in navy.

While searching for fabric to recover the seats, I came across this

I think it’s a winner! And possibly this fabric for window treatments

I’m also painting this over.  I think it deserves to be pink.  The hottest of pinks at that!

I think I need one of these

and to paint and have someone else reupholster this

Oh and I need another piece of fabric for this.  I may paint it too

I also picked up a brass lantern from Goodwill that’s similar to this one

I think it should be yellow.  Or maybe green.  I haven’t decided yet.  I’ll have more to share with you soon.

Oh, and I have not forgotten about the kitchen. I’ll update you on it this weekSmile

CAN YOUR DESIGN STYLE CHANGE?

While finishing up my kitchen and thinking of my family room and other rooms in my house, I’ve noticed something. My design style has changed (insert gasp!).  Now usually this wouldn’t be a big deal, and I’m pretty sure it still isn’t, but it’s a big deal for me because I mean it’s the complete opposite of what I liked just six months ago.

At one point I loved contemporary with a side of traditional.  Now, I’m loving a more laid back style.  Think farm house/cottage.  Does that make sense?

Here are a few examples

I mean, I haven’t gone country or anything (not that there is anything wrong with that), but it’s definitely not contemporary.  What could be the reason for this sudden change?  I have no clue, but if I had to guess, it may be from the eye candy here in blogland, or maybe it’s my sudden need to be comfortable in my space.  But hey, check this out, I only feel the need to do this in one part of my house.  How weird is that??? As far as my living and dining room is concerned, I still want that to be contemporary with a mix of traditional.  What exactly does this mean?

How can someone have this

And in another room have this?

Let me say this, I know that it is ok and possible to love more than one design style.  But is it possible to combine the two tastefully?  Should I channel my inner Sarah Richardson? Ha, yeah right!

And I’m not the only one that is going through a style change, if you haven’t already, check out Sarah’s post.  I feel her completely!

Have you went through any changes with your design style lately? Or am I the only one “lucky” enough to be experiencing something like this?!
