office/dressing room plans

Happy Tuesday! How was your Labor Day weekend?  Yesterday marked the 2 year anniversary of my weight loss journey and I really just played it low key.  It's funny how I finished the 30 days of Keto and the closest I came to a cheat meal was a bowl of turkey chili and some watermelon.  Like I keep telling you guys, once you make this your life, your entire mindset on food changes.

 

But all of that aside, today I wanted to discuss my office and soon to dressing room and office combo.  I haven't done  much in the space except for move some things around a few times just to get an idea of what it is I want the space to feel like.  My process for decorating is very drawn out because I really have to look at the space over and over again a few different ways because I can say "ok, I know what I'm going to do."  Here's a glimpse of one side of the room.  I moved my desk up against the right wall.  It was in the middle, but it doesn't make much sense for it to be positioned there anymore.  I brought in my handbags and a few pairs of my shoes already, but it's all go to have to leave for now because I need to finish painting the space.
 

 

Plans for the space are as follows:

 

* Finish painting

* bring in larger French dresser painted black

* paint and bring in mirror

* new light fixture

* swap out the bookcases for single column style (paint them)

* purchase smaller desk

* take out pink dresser from closet and replace with white bookcase

* find another desk chair or paint and reupholster current chair

* style and organize space

 

 

 

The closet in the space currently is home to the pink dresser I mentioned replacing.  Though I love the dresser and the color, it's just not right for the space and it doesn't fit my style anymore.  What I've come to realize about myself is that although I love color, I really don't care for much of it in my closet or in my home.  If I do use colors, I like little pops of it here and there and this dresser is just too much.  I think the white KALLAX bookcase from IKEA will be a perfect swap and I can add woven baskets to it for a little texture.  The new French dresser that will take it's place in the room is larger and I will be painting it black.  It's so funny because it took a minute for me to come to that conclusion because I love it's current color, but again, it's not what I'm going for.  Stay tuned for that!

 

I'll be posting here for most of the week, but probably not on instagram.  I'm just needing a little time for myself.  When you give so much of yourself to others, you need time to refuel.  And though I'll be doing different things around my house and posting here on my blog, it's really a breath of fresh air to do and it's my way of refueling.

THAT STAGE

You know the stage when you’re designing a space and it’s not quite done, but it’s not too shabby either?  Well that’s where my office is right now.

I still have a good ways to go, but it’s surely getting there! I’m trying to figure out what color drapes to hang and then I need to start on my gallery wall.  I also need to paint the inside of the closet and the french dresser that I’m planning to put inside of the closet.  I need two of me. 

A CHAIR IS JUST A CHAIR…

Remember the before?  It was a nasty little chair from Goodwill that I left and you guys told me to go back and it it.

I have not had a chance to stage her, but here she is in all of her glory.  Right outside of the upholsterers warehouse!

I’ll take a better shot soon.  But for now, I’m smitten! Not only am I excited about how the chair turned out, but now I’m ready to upholster all of my old chairs!

FABRIC FOUND. CHAIR GONE.

I finally dropped my chair off at the upholsterer! It took longer than I thought to decide on the fabric I wanted to use.  While in Hobby Lobby the other day, I walked over to the fabric section just to see what they had available (not really thinking they would have anything I wanted).  There it was, some leopard print fabric on the clearance rack for 10.99 a yard!

It was perfect! AND, it was in the right color for my space (black and off white).  I grabbed that roll so fast and said I’ll take all of it!

So on Monday, I happily packed my chair into the truck and took it to get dolled up.

The best part about this makeover is how quickly it will be done.  I’m set to pick the chair up on Saturday so I’ll have a reveal for you on Monday unless you follow me on instagram.  I'm totally addicted to instagram!

HELLO.

It’s Friday and I haven’t touched base with you guys about anything.  We went away on vacation last week and all 3 of my boys started school this week! I did have a few rough days with my four year old, but today he did great upon arriving to school.  There were no “Mommy I’m sick”.  No “I don’t want to go to school anymore”.  It made my day a lot less stressful, because with those words came lots of crying and yelling and much more than I’d care to share  Today he’s good so I ‘m going to take that as a “I’ve made it over the hump” kind of thing and move forward. 

A few of you asked about the gold used on my VITTSJO shelving units from IKEA. 

Well let me tell you a secret… It was Rub n Buff! 

I used it on my office chair (I’ll show it to you soon)

It only took about 2.5 tubes to do both units and it was the easiest thing in all of my DIY projects.  I decided against spray paint because it is CRAZY HOT in Georgia.  Plus, I feared I would have damaged the units by running from wasps so I just used my rub n buff in the comfort of my wasps free home!

Now, I’m ready to tackle the closet. 

 

I’m going to keep the strips going, but change the color.  Since black is an accent in the space, I’m thinking black and beige (same color as walls) stripes and then adding a pink campaign dresser.  That’s IF it will fit!  If not, then I’ll just do a french dresser instead.  I need a ton of storage so something has to be shoved up in there for that!  

This project is definitely going at a slow pace.  I’m gearing up for Fall with my bracelets (shameless plug!)

And I’m in the middle of finishing up a wholesale order. Soooo…. I’ll keep you posted on the progress

STYLING THE BOOKCASES

Now that the bookcases are gold, it’s time to style them! I’m not a fan of styling bookcases.  I love the finished look, but putting it together is hell!  For mine, I knew that I wanted to display my favorite and prettiest things.  AND they could be fragile because after all, this is my space and I will have a lock on the door

Here are a few snapshots of how the styling process is coming together

I knew I wanted to display my globes on top.  I started by placing a few up there to get a feel of how it would look.  Now that I see it, I’ll continue to add them.  The black magazine files were added last night just to see if I liked them.  I do so the stickers are coming off and I’m going to purchase more.  The wine decanter may seem a bit odd sitting there, but its one of my favorite thifting finds and I love looking at it.  It will stay.

The pink boxes are being used to store my bracelet supplies.  I was making bracelets the other night and looked up to see gold, black, turquoise, and hot pink material laying on my table and was instantly inspired so that’s the direction I’m headed in with the pieces I add to the bookcase.

 

And I can finally display my favorite jewelry pieces without little hands getting to them! I love love love that!

Ok, that’s all I have for now. The boys are headed back to school next week so we are getting things together and my bracelet business has really taken off.  I would not have thought things would be coming together like this for me. 

GOING FOR THE GOLD!

I’m doing a bit of swooning over in these parts.  I decided that gold was the way to go for my VITTSJO shelving unit from IKEA and boy oh boy was I (and you guys, too!) right!!

I’m working on the other one today so I’ll try to style them and have them ready for their real debut by Friday! I’m excited!

MONDAYS….BLAH

Am I the only one who feels like the weekend went by entirely too fast?  Goodness.  I didn’t get a lot done, but I did manage to squeeze in finishing up one of my pieces for the office.

I’m headed back in there now to finish up the other one, but I ‘m still trying to figure out if I should leave it the original black/brown color or go gold.  Hmmm… Your thoughts?

GOLDEN

Gold and brass accents in a space really speak to me.  It adds a bit of glamour don’t you think?!?! One way that I’m looking to bring in gold to my office is with my desk chair.  Here are a few inspiration images of gold chairs that I’ve been swooning over

AT A SNAILS PACE….

 

Today this room will be cleared out and the walls will be finished.  With that out of the way, I’ll be able to put up (hopefully) an IKEA ‘EXPEDIT’ bookcase and bring in my desk. 

I’m pulling inspiration for this room from this image (below).  I absolutely adore it.  The wall color, the color of the campaign piece, the art, the leopard, and the gold, it’s pretty much my vision for my space. 

 

Now let’s see how long it takes me to get there

MY HAPPY AND BRIGHT SPACE

Howdy guys! Sorry for my absence. There were a few personal things I had to deal with. I’m excited to talk about what I have been doing aside from all the other things going on.

For the past few days, I’ve been doing a little outdoor painting.  I found three of these chairs for a steal months ago. I figured they would be perfect in navy. 

While searching for fabric to recover the seats, I came across this

I think it’s a winner! And possibly this fabric for window treatments

I’m also painting this over.  I think it deserves to be pink.  The hottest of pinks at that!

and to paint and have someone else reupholster this

Oh and I need another piece of fabric for this.  I may paint it too

I also picked up a brass lantern from Goodwill that’s similar to this one

I think it should be yellow.  Or maybe green.  I haven’t decided yet.  I’ll have more to share with you soon.

Oh, and I have not forgotten about the kitchen. I’ll update you on it this week
