My Pantry

The day has come...

For me to reveal my pantry...

It's not as good of a pantry as this...

But it is as nice as this one...

Even though it's missing these baskets...

It is perfect for me...

and better than this...

So not to keep you waiting any longer...

Here is where my milk crate baskets will sit...

Now that I have more storage, I'm having a hard time stocking it! Probably because I dread grocery shopping!!!Okay seriously what do you think? I really didn't want to post the pictures yet because the baskets that I want from Target were either damaged or out of stock. I have a few things that need to go in those baskets. Do you know of other places where I can find similar baskets?

FOOD STORAGE AND A GIVEAWAY

The pantry is coming along nicely. I'm still searching for more food storage and I've found some good containers, but they can get pretty pricey!

Some of you noticed the glass storage containers that I have in the pantry right now.

I fell in love with these after seeing them in Ina Garten's kitchen (the Barefoot Contessa). They can be found at Crate and Barrel AND Target! She keeps them on her counter and I think I like them better there as well.

Another trend that I'm seeing is storage hung on the pantry door.

There are two types of door storage found on the doors above. One (my favorite) is actually shoe organizers! I've seen this done before in bedrooms for jewelry, but never would have thought of using them in a pantry. The other door storage solution can be found in your local home improvement store in the closet organization section for about $30. This is a better solution if you need a little more solid shelf space. I think I may try the shoe organizer to hold miscellaneous items.

What I'm debating over right now is using baskets in the space.

I'm loving baskets in pantries. The items in the baskets above are not that organized, but because they are in baskets it gives the pantry an organized look.

My pantry should be complete by Friday and I can't wait! The hardest part of completing this space is making it presentable. I'm not satisfied with the color, but IT'S A PANTRY! Does the color really matter?!?!

And by the way, for those of you who like the glass jars, I'm giving away two large (gallon) and two medium (half gallon) to one lucky reader of this blog!

The winner will be chosen using Random.org and announced Monday Nov. 16

Good luck!

COVER UP

Updated to add: I'm linking this post to kimba's DIY day at A Soft Place to Land and The Shabby Chic Cottage Transformation Thurdays

When I asked what to do about the alarm box most if not all of you suggested working around it. Latasha suggested using Mod Podge and scrapbook paper so I gave it a try.

Here is the beast before I covered it up

And here it is after I mod podged the scrapbook paper over it

These are the materials I used (and scissors not shown)

This project is so easy that I didn't even think to take pictures as I did it. It took about 5 minutes to do (if you are familiar with using mod podge) and 7 minutes if you're not! I basically dipped my brush into the bottle and brushed the mod podge on the box. Make sure you move quickly with applying the paper because this stuff dries fast! I used about two sheets of the paper and I let it dry. I didn't feel the need to go over the top of the paper with the mod podge because the surface will not be heavily used. If you were lining the inside of a drawer then you would most likely do so.

Now I'm wondering if its okay for me to use magnets on the box???

Oh can you tell that I've installed the other shelves? By working around the box, I was only able to install two more shelves (not my plan). And the paint that I chose is not working for the space. I wanted to do a nice blue, but I chickened out. Now I have to repaint because this subtle taupe is not doing anything for the space.

Here is quick peek at the unfinished space:

Next I would like to talk about storage containers. As you can see I've used these glass containers that are nice, but they are not air tight. In order to store sugar, cereals, and other foods that could clump or become stale(?) I need good containers with air tight seals. I'll show you what I've been looking at tomorrow. What do you think so far?

OFF TO A FRESH START

You guys may remember me posting this picture of my coat closet that is in my dining room and next to my kitchen

My Sister in law was so ashamed of this photo! But really, can you have a good after without a terrible before?!

Well I've cleaned the closet, donated some of the coats that were stuffed in there and it's ready for some more shelves and paint

Looking good already huh? Well Here is the problem, our alarm box is in this closet. Who knew?!!!

This is my BIG design dilemma. Can I have it moved? If so where? I guess I should ask the company huh? Well I'll figure that out today because I'm ready to proceed with this project! I was watching some Martha Stewart Clips on demand (Comcast cable) and it got me all excited about this project!

Here is what I have to do:
*Remove the box
*add more shelves
*paint
*find storage
*Enjoy my new pantry

SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE!!!

What are your thoughts about this project? Do you already have a pantry? If so, how do you organize it and what are your best storage containers?

PANTRY PROBLEM

When we moved into our home I noticed that we didn't have a pantry. Actually I knew it when we purchased this house, but I didn't mind it at the time. Well it's been a little over a year now and boy do I mind not having a pantry!

By the way, I did finish the cabinets!!! I will post them soon.

As you can see, I don't have much cabinet space. I have 3 boys and a husband so I need a lot more storage than what I have. So my solution is to turn my coat closet that is next to my kitchen and inside my dining room into a pantry. I mean really how many coats does five people have?

Maybe I should have cleaned it up a bit? Oh well too late! Yeah I stuff things in there when my husband tell me that "his" garage is becoming over crowded!

Do you see my DVF luggage tucked away in there? SWOON! Anyway... back to the topic at hand....I. WANT. A. PANTRY!!! Maybe like these:

OKAY, OKAY maybe like this one!

Yes this is it! There is not too much I'll have to do to replicate this pantry (just add more shelves). So once I finish the one I'm working on now, I'll move on to this. What is your next project?

***My first giveaway is coming tomorrow (hopefully) for my followers. So if there is anyone out there who have been following this blog but not following this blog you still have time! You can always follow when I post the giveaway, but why not do it now so I can "meet" you already?!!!***
