IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS

As you know, Thanksgiving is next week. Usually on Thanksgiving we wake up and have a nice big breakfast and then head over to my mom's house or my in laws house for lunch and dinner. Last year we went to Atlantic Station for the tree lighting and some Christmas festivities.

This year the lighting of the tree will be this Saturday Nov.21 which is great because it frees up Thanksgiving night for me to start some decorating. This year I plan to use the same color scheme that I used last year which is Silver, Turquoise, and Glass.

I have be honest. I never let the kids help me decorate my our tree

(this is a not so flattering image of my tree last year)

Allow me to talk about this tree for a minute. I purchased this tree (9ft) thinking it would be great since the tree we had in our apartment was 4ft. After getting it home and realizing that it's HUGE and that it cost a lot to decorate a big tree I stopped purchasing ornaments after my bill reached $250. I NEVER EVER EVER spend money like that on decorations for any holiday. And that was $250 for ornaments. So I decided to make due with those and wait until after Christmas to rack up on clearance. So stay tuned for this year's tree!

Okay so back to the purpose of this post!

This year I thought about mixing a more traditional color scheme in the family room so the kids can have fun with a tree of their own. It sound good right now, but I'm starting to think of my bill at check out again...ugh! I like the reds and the greens and the golds and whites too, just not all over. This may be something I have to think more about, but here are a few inspirations I've found to keep me wanting the traditional look

What are your thoughts on holiday decorating? Do you decorate for your liking only? Do you decorate for your kids? Or, do you not decorate at all because you can spend your money on something better?!

For years I decorated for the kids, now 17 and 22. Although they like the tree still, it became more about 'me' a few years ago. So I went with something elegant I'd always wanted ...a 'themed' gold tree. This year I'm moving more towards the simple. Matching to my decor tastes and thinking country, simplified and down home. The total makeover on my tree (including ornaments, skirt, etc) is going to hopefully COST around $20. That's my goal. A reveal of it will be coming soon on the blog (after Thanksgiving).

Those are my colors! Lol, thats the color we did our tree last year. Were in search of a new tree this year, the one from our apt. was tiny too.

I like the traditional look of christmas, but I love the teal, white and silver look :)

Up to this point I've decorated for the kids, holiday decor has not really been my thing. It also could have to do with the fact I dislike so much of the holiday decorations we have...handed down from grandmas...which while I hold dear, their taste and mine don't mesh!!

Can't wait to see what you do, we have the same color palette, how fun!! Janell

p.s. your tree from last year looks great!

I see what you mean now about the tree and the ceiling--I still like a huge tree, though, so I love it. I've always thought about doing a traditional tree, but the ornaments are so beautiful every year that I do something else. I've done brown, bronze and gold (which was beautiful), and also a silver/white theme. I told you how I feel about Christmas trees-Martha Stewart all the way!

To cut costs on my Holiday decor, I use a lot of nontraditional ornaments - such as candle rings and floral picks which are easy to find at 90% off after Christmas. I also made a lot of my ornaments by using vase fillers found on clearance and decorating sytrofoam balls. I'll be doing a series of posts in the next few days about how I decorate my tree on a budget.

I think since you big boys who like to be hands on with you....they should have part in with the decorations of the house....So get ready to spend some money$$$$$ or you could just let them help with what you have and shop for them a little tree and decor. after the holidays....
GOOD LUCK.....

I for one just like to look at the pretty, shiny stuff, it makes home feel like home, apple pie and turkey dinner, hmmm! now who is going to do all that cooking after we put up our first big tree of 7 1/2 feet tall.

I love the blue & white Christmas picks. I can't wait to have my own tree that's my pretty tree. The kids won't decorate that one...and it will be all in blue & white.

Well being the slacker decorater that I am. I'll be putting up a pre-lit tree from last year. And I will borrow or buys some walmart clearance bulbs and lights. My husband finally placed the tree in the attic on the King Holiday (yes the 15th of Jan of the following year). But my other sister in law, Pam who passed away ten years ago this Christmas Eve, she had a tree and then she bought one for my brother and his children to mess up! But let me assure you fellow BLOGGER that Lakeith C. Duncan DOESN'T allow her children or husband to help her with her "Upscale Macy's or Bloomingdales Tree!" If they dare touch that tree, she will bronze them! Happy Holiday
