DECORATING WITH BOOKS: Reader’s Digest

One day I hope to have bookcases that flanks a fireplace or even a stretch of bookcases on a single wall filled with lots of books and knick knacks that make me smile every time I see it! But, unfortunately, I don’t have space at the moment so I have to display my books on top of dressers or end tables.

Don’t let the paper covers fool you!

My current obsession in books are vintage Reader’s Digests. I’ve started collecting them mostly because of my love for their covers.

And not to mention the stories that are in them

You can find these at thrift shops and Goodwills. Or my favorite, Etsy!

These are the young readers edition which I love because they have more stories that I am familiar with. But the other editions are just as great!

These (below) are found in my friend Rene’s Etsy shop

I don’t know about you, but doesn’t these remind you of the Penguin books found at Anthropology?

By the way, aren’t the colors perfect with my Goodwill art?!

Have you ever considered collecting Reader Digest Books?!

No...I haven't actually! But they look good, and speaking of looking good, those shoes in the second to last photo look very good! Janell

Ummm...going to my garage to remove covers immediately. I have two boxes full of old RD books. You've made my day!

Get it grrrl! I really love the vintage books. I think you may have started something, LOL. Oh and I like the x-bench in the pic.

ooh--pretty, pretty!

i just bought some vintage books a few weeks ago, some that are in german and almost 100 years old! they're not quite as colorful as yours, but they have beautiful leather covers.

I love RD books! My parents used to buy them for us, and I remember standing them up and pretending they were wallpaper backdrops for my Barbies.

I also read the books. :) Some of the best stories I read when I was younger were from RD books - I have a hard time remembering the titles and finding them again.

Laekitha I have purchased readers digest books for their covers and other books also. I use them as lifts on tables and on bookcases. They make a great color spot in a room. Love all the colorful covers you have! KS

I left a box of these books in the pull down attic at our old house. I'm so tempted to stop by there to see if the owner even knows they're up there. I really forgot them when we moved.

These are great! Who knew such cute covers were hiding under those book jackets?
They remind me of Tory Burch prints.
Thanks for sharing~

I feel so silly saying this but I never knew these beauties existed. Very cute! Just more proof of the gems usually hiding under those paper covers.
