A TRAGEDY WORTHY OF ATTENTION

I’m pretty sure that you guys know about what is going on in Japan.

This certainly hit close to home given the fact that I have a brother in law, sister in law, and two nephews there right now.

I never thought that I would have to justify the U.S helping people in need, but after hearing  “we need to sit this one out”  or smart remarks like “Haiti is still rebuilding”, I just had to say something.

Yes, I understand that we have our own problems right now, but what ever happened to when a friend is in need, you help?  You help because that is just the right thing to do.  You help because that is the human way.  And what is killing me with this is that these people are Christians

Thankfully, my family members are okay (last I heard from them 18hrs ago), but there are THOUSANDS or MILLIONS of people who aren’t. Now why would someone ever say lets not worry about this crises?

Janell wrote a post today on different ways to help donate.  I’m sorry, but this is not that kind of post.  My post is more so on the lines of, If you’re not going to help, or you don’t have anything positive to say on the matter, then I politely ask for you to

SHUT UP…

I'm with you. We should help no matter what, or who, or who else we need to help. This is what makes America great, the way we come together to assist others. We need to do something. Even if it's just donating a few bucks to the Red Cross, it's helping. I am proud to say I am a Christian, and I want to make a difference. I don't want to sit and do nothing. God says we are to help our brothers and sisters. This is no different.

I hope your BIL and SIL are OK! What a scary experience to go through and the loss of life (as always) is tragic. The idea of sitting out on charity is just...well, completely in contravention to what the idea of charity is. And you're right: it's just not Christian.

Watching the coverage it seems so hard to digest. The fact that you have family there must have made this terrifying for your entire family. I'm so glad to hear that you heard from them. They're in my prayers.

Thanks for your comments guys! I don't expect many to comment on this post due to different opinions, but come on.

My other sister in law said that this post should be removed, but I believe when you feel strongely about something, let it be known because:

"The people that mind don't matter and the people that matter don't mind"!

I wouldn't take the post down. It's a tragedy and it is now part of history. Our children will learn about this some day.

The sit back and do nothing attitude is ridiculous. Like it or not, what happens in other countries affects us daily. People better start to care.

I'm glad your family is safe and I hope they are able to stay safe.

I love and spend more time on blogs where the author writes about what's real and important to them. My grandmother was from Japan. I know there are no tears in heaven, but I know this breaks her heart.

Also like.

We have close friends in Japan. They are fine, thankfully.

I'm glad your loved ones are okay. I was watching the news earlier and tears started streaming down my face. So sad what's happening and for people to sit back and think it doesn't affect them or it's simply not their problem is just plain ignorant. I truly believe in the sentiment ALL IS ONE and whatever happens on this planet in someway will affect others. I agree that helping is just the right thing to do as a human being.

Lakeitha, My boyfriend's mother is Japanese so this tragedy has deeply affected her, and in turn me. So I totally get what you are saying. I've seen some absolutely disgusting comments since last week that really broke my heart too! Kudos to you for saying how you feel!

I think you should leave post up, it's your right to voice your opinion, and the right of those who choose to not read. I have family there too but I would still feel for those there even if I didn't. From the very beginning I've followed you because you're REAL! Keep being you.

If this tragedy doesn't pull at your heart strings its because you have no heart.I may not have much to donate but the little that i can give I will gladly give up to help those in need.Love how you speak your mind and don't sugarcoat it!!
Natural disasters happen everywhere and CAN happen to you so "treat others as you would like to be treated".

Good Post. Haiti, Japan, New Orleans, Indonesia, THE WORLD! Christian or non Christian. We are to help those in need however one can. Period.

Wow, it's a good post. For some it might come as a surprise, like me, because most of my google reader subscriptions are decor blogs that other then a few posts about the tragedy and how terribly sad it is, are not controversial or opinions like you mentioned(or maybe I am not reading the comments...). That said, I am a little sad it isn't addressed more though because it does seem shallow to keep reading about paint or such thing when they are suffering so much. However, I too, could be held accountable - I went to google reader for a bit of an escape after watching so much on tv and fox news.

But I wholly agree with you on support and love and prayers. I also have been super impressed with the Japanese culture as a whole, how wonderfully dignified, if that's the right word, they have been given all they are going through - and very transparent too, to the rest on the world.

Anyway, your blog is yours and you should be able to express however you want so don't take the post down!

Glad your family is safe.

Good for you girl!! A tragedy is a tragedy. Doesn't matter where it is, who it affects. We should respond however we can, even if it's just with prayers!!

Wow, where have I been, I haven't heard any of these comments. But then I tend to not listen to a lot of the news, which often seems so slanted in its perspective. Janell

Okay, Lakeitha just let me know that the comments were via twitter, that makes more sense. Come on, we are all humans, it is one world, which is so incredibly small, what affects one person truly does spread out and affect everyone. There are so many needs, in this country and others, I believe each of us needs to find ways big and small to help those whose situation speaks to us and touches us in some way, and give in a meaningful and generous way. I'm so thankful your family is doing well -- I feel like your feel I have compassion for anyone regardless of where they live and always want to help out.

People with silly comments are selfish and make me sick
