CARS BEDROOM UPDATE

I’m trying to finish up my two youngest boys bedroom before summer is officially over.

I purchased the MALM three drawer chest from Ikea to use between the beds to hold their clothes and to serve as their nightstand.  Now I need to find a rug.

I’m still trying to figure out what to use in the corner or on this wall.  I wish I could put a desk here… I’ll figure out something.

I’m going to try to tackle the roller shades for the window in the room… Wish me luck!

Replacing the ceiling fan is still up in the air (get it? up in the airOpen-mouthed smile)

I hate these doors.  Let me rephrase that, I hate what my kids do to these doors! I may take them down…

I don’t have a lot to do in the space for it to be complete, but it will take me some time.  Should I push for mid September?! I know… I’m just lazySmile with tongue out

BIG BOY ROOM PART 2 (FINAL INSPIRATION)

Hello out there! If you’re still interested in what I have to say, I want to let you know that I have started on my youngest two boys room! What is the final inspiration for the space?

2010-ford-shelby-gt500-1 Camaro SSX Track Car Concept

New 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 2011-Mini-Coupe-1

That’s right! Very cool sports cars! And what do they all have in common? A stripe? Black? Chrome? Blue? Yes! Yes! Yes! and Yes (except one)! If you are following me on twitter, then you’ve seen the paint color and a peak at the beds! You were also able to see my mishap with primer! For those of you who don’t tweet…No worries, I got pictures for you too!

wall colorThe wall color is growing on me! And no, that stripe is not chalkboard. After thinking more about my 4 and 2 year old, that wouldn’t have been a good idea! Don’t worry. It’s not going to be just a big black stripe!

bed

The bed is the MALM platform bed from IKEA. Nick insisted on a black bed.

inspiration

Here is my starting inspiration for the room! Nick handed me one of his favorite hotwheels and told me he wanted his room to look like it! Umm…Okay Nick! primer

And the worst thing that could have happened….I spilled the primer on the floor. I asked (on twitter) if I should get my carpets professionally cleaned or purchase my own cleaner. Many said get it done professionally. Well, after this happened, hurried to Target to grab a cleaner while my sister was at home scrubbing and soaking my carpet. Guess what? The spot is GONE!!! See in the picture of the bed? The foot of the bed is where the primer was.

I’ll post better updates on the room next week! What are your plans for the weekend?!

FINDING INSPIRATION: with clearance items

Last week, I had a line up of posts from some great bloggers! This week, I want to add my two cents to what they had to say!

Erika, from BluLabel Bungalow, discussed how she was inspired by her daughters outfit and used it to come up with a mood board for the room.

Well, I’ve told you that I’m inspired by anything, but what I didn’t tell you is that A LOT of times I’m inspired by clearance! Target clearance at that! You already know that I’m putting ideas together to start on Nicholas and Brendan’s room and that the plan was to use red, yellow, and black

But then, I found these images of vintage cars at Goodwill

So I started to rethink the colors for the space. Thinking more of blue, yellow, green, reds… Then, I started to notice that Target was putting a lot of things on clearance! So I waited just to see if anything I liked would be marked down! And guess what?

I found this rug for $39.98!

The colors are blue, green, yellow, and orange!

Then, I went over to see if these chairs were marked down more than they were before I left for NY. Guess what?

boys 502

They were! AND I was able to purchase ONE for

boys 503

Can you see it? $17.21!!! Now that is a deal! So by now the room is already complete in my head! Like I can literally see how everything will be! But before I left, I wanted to look around and see if I could find some frames for the vintage cars and I did!

boys 505

Perfect! I wanted a large frame, but I needed it to be matted to the size of the pictures. These frames are 8x10 and matted to 5x7… SCORE! But the prices are better

boys 506

$6.48! Now, that is seriously a great deal! I wish that they were 75% off, but hey, 50% works for me! Plus the frames will work perfect with the bamboo blinds that I find myself adding to every room I work on

Then I started thinking about lamps. I really like the lamps I used in TJ’s room. Not to mention they are on sale this week for $14! The shades come in lots of different colors. I think green may be a winner right now with yellow coming in second!

I used the lampshade to one of these lamps in my sister’s nursery (I really need to get over to my sister’s house to see my NEPHEW Miles and finish his room!)

Tomorrow, I will talk about the wall treatment for the room! Yes, you heard right WALL TREATMENT! Here is a hint: B&B!

Are you ever inspired by clearance?! Have you found anything at Target lately for a great price?! And how many of you saw my tweet about the $2.98 sheet SETS at Target?!?!

And one last thing, Thank You to everyone that commented and emailed me on my post from Nate Day last week! I will definitely post about my first time flying, and I will share some of the 400 pictures that I took while in NY. I love that city (I knew I would), and my husband and I are already planning a trip there together!

BIG BOY BEDROOM 2: INSPIRATION

I'm hopefully starting on the boys rooms next week and here is a few of the things that I'm thinking about for the room. First, I'm thinking about white walls. I wanted black, but thats a bit much for some people although Nick was on board!
These prints are currently 5x7 and will be placed in a larger frame

Black and white stripes somewhere

A painted campaign dresser (yellow or red)

This duvet from Pottery Barn

This rug from IKEA

This is just a snippet! I'll be back next week with more about this room. What do you think so far? Are you opposed to painting walls black? Or, are you more opposed to painting a wall white?

GOODWILL JACKPOT!

You guys know that I’m currently working on my sister in laws nursery, which has left me no choice but to put my two youngest boys room on hold for a while. You also know that no matter what room or who it’s for that I’m working on, I must make a trip to Goodwill! Well, the other day when I stopped in my local store, I ran across these

boys 462

boys 464
Six hand drawn vintage cars for 99 cents each!!! I mean SERIOUSLY!!! I grabbed those bad boys so fast! They are perfect for the soon to be car inspired room! This is by far my favorite find! And the fact that they are hand drawn is a major plus. Now, if any of you know or find out that these are worth a billion and one dollars, please let me know and you I both will globe trot for the rest of our lives;-)

**Edited to add**

Over this past weekend, I found this great Michael Kors leather satchel for $16.99! Now, that was a steal!

Oh and I did mention that I like to go into a thrift shop of sorts with any design I’m working on.

Reasons Being:

  • You never know what you’ll find

  • the prices will always beat retail

  • there is nothing better than having a piece that someone else will not have

  • its better to repurpose something than to let it go to a landfill

  • I love the thrill of the hunt

  • And I love to show you guys the before and afters:-)

How many of you go to second hand shops? I wrote a guest post for Janell a while back showing a few of my thrift store finds…Check it out!

I'm sharing this with Rhoda over at Southern Hospitality and her Todays Thrifty Treasures Linky!
