I have been a little busy around these parts… It’s time for me to finish up a few painting projects before I can move on to other things I need to do like start on family room, or paint my kitchen cabinets AGAIN.
The first project that I’m starting on is painting the rails that are currently honey oak
I really should have finished this a long time ago. But for some reason, these kind of painting projects intimidate me. I can take on an entire downstairs living area with no problem, but I do not like the smaller more tedious paint projects.
As you can see, paint drips all over this one! I’m just a slacker sometimes
Anyway, I got out my supplies
I think every project I do includes something I’ve found on clearance!
I used tinted oil based primer because the paint I’m using is a really dark brown
Espresso Beans by Behr Paint from Home Depot. It’s the paint and primer in one, but I use primer with this stuff anyway…
Anyway, after a good sanding and wiping and taping of the area I’m working on first, I began to prime
Then I let the primer dry overnight before I sanded it a little and started painting
It was kind of hard to get a good picture of the dark color
While that side was drying, I had to hurry and get the other side sanded and primed before it was time to pick up the boys from school
I’ll show the finished stairway probably next week…I have to do the kitchen too.. Now that is going to be a pain!

Mmm, that looks really good, LaKeitha! Here's another photo of dark railing you may like!

Don't you love it ! Painting around the spindles is the tedious part, good thing you only had 5 of those, I had way too many.
It looks great! I'm not sure how you kept those boys from touching it while it dried, though! :-)
Oh, trying to fit projects in before the kids come home from school, I know all about this! I like it, really updates the railing from the pine look! I can't believe all the items you find on clearance...great sourcing!

Laekitha it looks so great, what a difference paint can make. I always put these kinds of projects off to the last also. I always surprise myself at how little time it takes. I spend waaaaaay more time thinking about it than it actually takes to do it. Same thing with laundry, hehe. Kathysue
Laekitha...it looks great...oil base...dang that is hard to work with but it will do better in the long run.
love it! looks great. i want to do this too, it's perfect.

I love dark railings - what a change!
Same color I used. I should have primed too, but I just jumped right in. It's a very, very tedious job. I can see when I started to get tired. It really updates the look. I love it!
Smart girl using the oil base primer especially when you've got kids going up and down those stairs - it will wear so much better in the long run! I love that color you chose! It's a tedious job but will give you major results!
Wow, great job! The railing looks wonderful. Can't wait to see the full result
Looks 100x better!! I agree with you small projects take me so much longer to complete - and the bigger painting one I can get it done fast!
lakeitha, the railing is so much better painted. I did the same thing a few years ago and loved it. I just couldn't abide by those wood tones!
great job...donna
You are inspring!! It even looked good with the primer color on. I just got a quote to have it done. ahh..I think I'm going to try and tackle this one myself!! $$

Projects like this are hard - I agree. It is hard for me to be patient and let the paint dry. It looks great and is painting our rail is on my to do list.
I so need to do this same thing. But, WHEN???? :) Looking good.
Will you come to my house and paint my railings?!? I have the lovely honey oak too!! :)
