Hello again friends! I have a free moment and while the boys are super excited about today being the last day of school for their winter break, I’m stressing because it’s down to the wire for me! With presents to ship, and painting projects to finish, I’m just one big bottle of crazy right now.
Every time I complete a task, I want to be able to share it with you (just so you’ll know that I’m really not a slacker!). The latest task was setting my dining room table for the holidays. After searching for the right tablecloth with no luck, I decided to make a quick one from a roll of fabric I found a few months back at Goodwill. I also purchased some mercury glass candlesticks from Target that I absolutely love!
Once the fabric was cut to the length I needed, I started playing around with the settings
This is what I came up with… (Thank you Mr. Goodwill Hunting for the tip)
These pictures don’t WOW me at all. I promise that the table looks really good in person;-)
See my cute little birdie below?
He used to be blue, but a can of gold spray paint fixed that!
Oh, and it fixed the boring brown pinecones you see on the table too!
But back to the question; How do you take a really good (great even) picture of a tablescape?!
Happy Weekend!

The table looks lovely! Our family is so informal. I haven't set the tbale in years. We do it buffet style :)
Your table looks beautiful! I think the close-up pix are great too and help tell the story.

Hey Lakeitha!
You did a great job. I hope you take a few pics of the big dinner and share with us!

I think I know exactly how wonderful this table looks in person! Not that I've been to your home, but...
After a couple years writing and reading blogs I think I can tell when something looks great for real...regardless of the images! It is frustrating though, isn't it?! I had this happen with my master bedroom, the photos looked good, but they didn't quite capture that last bit of something that made the room special.
The solution? Play with the lighting and settings, and take a lot of photos. Regardless, the table is looking much better than mine!!

I can totally relate Lakeitha. I know for sure that your table looks beautiful, but I picture it being like trying to capture a good image of a Christmas tree and it is so hard. Those gold pine cones just sparkle and so does the mercury. And I just love the little birds. So tell, what's on the menu? Always looking for ideas.

It looks great girl! Sorry I don't have any advice about tablescape pics because I never do them. :)
I wouldn't think you were a slacker no matter what you said!
I have not discovered the secret to a great design photograph, but I do know that many design photographs are staged for the photo, and what looks great in the photo would look odd or cluttered in real life. It's especially funny when I go through a collection of photographs for a single home and notice one or two of the pieces keep mysteriously moving from room to room (and not because the designer admitted to moving pieces, but because the photos are staged!).
I think your table shines.
I love your photos and your table is beautiful! Merry Christmas!!
It's so pretty, Lakeitha! It IS frustrating not to be able to capture that special sparkle and beauty in the photographs. I wish I could offer great advice, but I'm not an expert. If I don't "talk" to you before, hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family!
I think your table looks really pretty and I know exactly what you mean about pictures ! I'm no expert but I would try my silver chargers that I got at pier one underneath the white plates or maybe place mats.... Happy holidays to you and your family.
Merry Christmas! It has been crazy in the Floyd household since bringing home Madelyn. Trying to get caught up in blog world. Love the tablescape. Mine is looking pretty much like last year.

Happy Holidays...
You find the neatest things at Goodwill and they all seem to look fab when you use them. I think your table is lovely.
I found out taking pics of tables is a little tricky. I have pics of my complete table from Thanksgiving that I never posted. It's hard to capture the moment when everyone is ready to eat :).
Really great table! I love the bold colored ornaments against the natural pine cones! And the birds are such a great touch!
