HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!

I just wanted to drop in and say Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Green is not a color I use often when it comes to decorating a space, but when it came to my sons’ room, green was the star!

Are any of you planning to celebrate St. Pat’s day? Any green beer drinking?! My friend and I will make our way into the city later to check out the scene.  I would love to be in Savannah right now.  Did you know that Savannah, Ga has the second largest celebration of this day? I’ve never been for St. Patrick’s Day, but I hear that they go all out! Maybe I’ll go next year!

Have a safe weekend!

SERENA AND LILY PART 2

I'm so excited right now because last night I was able to see much anticipated photos of my blog friend Cristi Holcombs work on a model home she recently finished in Texas.

All of the rooms are gorgeous (SERIOUSLY)! But, one in particular caught my attention. Although I've known that she was doing this room for months, it was a total shock when I was actually able to see it done!

Here is the Serena & Lily Room that inspired both her bedroom design and my design for my sons bedroom

And here is my version of the room

And here is the room done by Cristi!

I love the sisal ottomans she used, the parsons desk next to the bed, the lamps attached to the palettes, the yellow chair, and the letters on the wall above the bed! Is it safe to say that I love the the entire room?! Great job Cristi! Now, if you guys are still reading this, please head over her blog to see the rest of the rooms in the house! I promise you won't be disappointed!

Have a great weekend!

CAMPAIGN DESK REVEAL!

First things first, please excuse the orange tinge on the wall. Nothing I did with the lighting worked to fix it. That’s how strong of an orange that Martha Stewart “Saffron” is!

I haven’t found a chair for the desk so here it is all plain and lonely!

Then I brought in one of my chairs from the breakfast table because I figured I needed something better to show you guys. I like how the wood of the chairs plays off the wood in the room. I may just use this one and change out the fabric!

boys 469

I had this bright idea to take pictures of my son while he was working at the desk!

boys 470

I swear this is the easiest prop I’ve ever put together! AND…I think its the best one yet!

boys 472

In an email, someone suggested the little pencil gripper thingy for my son to better his grip with the pencil and guess what? It worked like a charm!

boys 474

Wanna know what he was writing on the paper?

boys 479

Can you see it?!

boys 478

Does that say Antonio?!!!

boys 481

This is the best view I’ve had in a long time!

boys 473

Thank You for all of your comments regarding my son. I have taken all of your suggestions and am now coming up with ways to incorporate them in our daily lessons at home! I’ll be sure to post about a few of my favorites that has my son excited!

Have a GREAT Monday!

HOW TO (RE) PAINT A CAMPAIGN DESK

A few weeks ago, I showed you how I messed up the desk that is going into the 'Big Boy' room.
This is what it looked like

The paint peeled

It did not look good...

You do remember why, right? Because I used this

DO NOT USE THE SAME ROLLER ON FURNITURE THAT YOU USE ON YOUR WALLS!

Okay, now that I have that squared away, let's get to correcting the problem

Step 1: Sand the desk (I'm saying desk, but it goes for whatever you're working on)

Step 2: use a tack cloth to remove the dust
(I forgot to take a picture when I used the tack cloth the first time)

Step 3: Roll on your primer

I used the same primer from the first time

Step 4: Admire your work

Step 5: Get back to work by smoothing out any 'rough' spots

(use your tack cloth again after this step too)

Step 6: Apply your paint (USING A FOAM ROLLER THIS TIME!)

Step 7: After your paint has dried, apply some type of protective coat/finish

And there you have it! I have fixed all of the problems with the desk by changing only one thing: I used a sponge roller!
I need to paint the hardware too. I will show you the reveal next week (maybe Monday!)

Have a great weekend Everyone!

The photography is by the talented Mrs. Limestone you can purchase her work here

This cute little crab in the hat is from Poor Dog Farm's etsy store. This shop has some of the cutest animals in hats! Love 'em!

The large clipper ships are from an estate sale (I've seen them on ebay for $10-$20 each. I paid $12 for all 4!)

Also, if you look at the closet photo, you'll see a boat painting and it's from the talented Bayles Designs on etsy found here and is an original water color.

Once again, I'm very thankful for your comments on the outcome of the my sons room and I'd like to say thanks to everyone who chimed in! I calculated everything purchased and added $50 and my total for the room redesign came to $490.54. Now, of course that's not including the pain, sweat, and frustration at times which would then bring the total to $4,803,174.83!!! But, my sons reaction to the room made it priceless! If I forgot to include something that you noticed in the space please let me know and I'll let you know where I found it. I do have one more thing that I'm adding to the room...Wanna see?

That's just the before pic! I'll give you a hint on the color...

Have a Terrific Weekend Everyone!
