FALL CRAFTS: DIY napkin rings

fall crafts 108 fall crafts 111

Now that Halloween is over, its time to think about the next few weeks that lead up to Thanksgiving. And since I’m planning on having a few more people at my dinner table this year, I I figured it would be great for everyone to know where they’re sitting without the hassle.

While at Michael’s trying to figure out what to use so soon to expire coupons, I came across some wooden leaf cut outs and the first thing that came to mind was napkin rings!

Here’s what you’ll need

wooden leaf cut outs (.29 cents each)

acrylic paint

paint brushes

some type of natural string (hemp, jute, or twine)

glue gun

Step one: Choose your base color for your leaves

(make sure you have some free help on hand!)

After your base color dries, it’s time to decorate!

Once your leaves are dry, it’s time to attach the string to the back.

turn the leaf over (we painted the back of the leaf too) and squeeze a dab of glue of glue in the middle of the leaf

add another dab of glue on top of the knot

Once the glue dries, you’re done! Now all you have to do is tie your napkin rings around your napkins!

(I used some left over fabric)

Easy right? How many of you will have handmade napkin rings at your dinner table this Thanksgiving?!

DIY FALL WREATH….A Tutorial!

Last year I took it upon myself to make a Fall wreath for my front door. And I know many of you may be trying to do the same so I’m reposting the tutorial just in case you missed it!

fall projects 006

I started with two grapevine wreaths. I used two because I wanted my wreath to be full.

I went to Hobby Lobby and found all of my foliage and pumpkins. Everything was around $25 and if you’ve ever purchased a pre-made wreath, you know that that’s a deal! Also, Hobby Lobby has things 50% off a lot, so there is no doubt you’ll get a good deal. And there is always the Dollar Tree for good deals too!

I combined the two wreaths

Using my trusty glue gun, I glued the leaves and pumpkins to the two wreaths until they were covered and I was happy! With this project, a low temp glue gun would have been ideal. I did this project late in the evening and had on a night gown and I burned my leg very bad with the glue:-(

I didn’t have the chance to hang my wreath because as soon as my sister in law saw it on my blog, she purchased it from me!

I will be making another wreath for my door and I will give you a tutorial for that one because I’m hoping to try something different! Have you made a wreath for your door already? If so, share a link in the comment section with me. I would love to see it!

I FINALLY FELL.....INTO FALL THAT IS!

I've noticed quite a few bloggers that have started their fall decorating and I've put mine on the back burner do to up coming projects around the house. While out today (at Hobby Lobby), I decided to go ahead and at least make a wreath for my soon to be newly painted front door! Here is how that project went:

I purchased to grapevine wreaths/circles/thingamajigies. I really meant to remember the sizes but I didn't so what you have to do is get one that is reg. price $4.99 and one that's $3.99 (sorry)

Then you get some floral wire so you can attach the two. I only dd this because I wanted the wreath to be a little thicker

Then you gather your foliage. I used a leaf bush some grassy flowers, some pumpkins, and some berries

This step consisted of me arranging the foliage before hot gluing them on the grapevine. I really suggest not skipping this step!

Once you figure out how your leaves and such will work then your going to basically glue them the exact way that you have them arranged. Some stems (like the pumpkins) don't require any glue because they can simply be "stuck" into the grapevine.

I really wish my pictures wouldn't have come out so ORANGE on the screen. The leaves are different shades like yellow, green, orange, and a deep reddish color. Trust me, my wreath is NOT one color! I feel like it's missing something- pine cones,gourds...

So what do you think? Please be easy on me. This is my first DIY wreath!

I'm sharing this project with Funky Junk Interiors and the DIY show off and Kimba's DIY day at A Soft Place to Land
