WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO?

Hi all! Sorry to leave you guys hanging last week with only two post:-(

It’s been a crazy busy week here at the Duncan house.  We came home from vacation and I had so many things to do (laundry, grocery shopping, getting back into a routine).  Also, two of my boys are starting school in two weeks.  Talk about pressure! I’ve been uniform shopping, supply shopping, shoe shopping all with kids in tow while trying not to hyperventilate of the thought of them going to school.

I’ve been seriously considering hiring a housekeeper.  I really need the extra help around the house.  Oprah once said that every wife needs a wife and I agree! A lot of people may consider this a lazy person’s way out, but trust me, trying to keep up with EVERYTHING that goes on in my life is pushing me to the limit.  I remember my sister in law having a house keeper and I really didn’t get the concept, but of course I didn’t have children!  Do any of you have a housekeeper?   Have you ever considered hiring one?  And, if any of you are able to do it all on your own, do you have any tips or advice for me to try in my home?

In other news, I have been busy in the Big Boy room.  I’ve hung the light fixture

boys 403

And I’ve finished the closet

boys 396

Now, I just need to do the finishing touches and I’ll reveal the room soon!

I love it! Navy and white stripes are always in style. Did I miss how you did the fixture? It looks great in that room. Love the green and navy together.

Looking Great!

As for the housekeeper - they sure do help you keep it together. Take the stress out of it so you can enjoy more time with your family. Fact is, you'll still find yourself cleaning certain things because a housekeeper never does *quite* the job you'd do with your own house... but I know my mom always had one come and it certainly helped her keep up to date with things.

The housekeeper would do general cleaning and my mom would focus on cleaning out the pantry, the closets or doing bigger tasks.

It's worth a go, if it's in the budget!

L, the closet turned out so cool! I know boys that would do a lot for such a room...
As for the housekeeper: My son's babysitter helps me out with the house for a couple of hours once a week. it does take a burden off me, but sometimes it's quicker doing everything myself, especially as i always need to be with her and instruct her (not bc i don't trust her, but nobody will ever see what needs to be done like yourself).

Get the housekeeper! I have a lady who comes every 3 weeks and it is without a doubt the nicest thing I do for myself. I just can't keep up otherwise.

I love the big boys room. Looking so good--and that is way too neat to be a closet :)

The light fixture looks amazing! I just love the idea of wrapping it with twine.

Housekeeper...as in all the time? Wow, that would be a dream. I have cleaners that come in every other week and just that has made a tremendous difference! It is my luxury for sure. Janell

girl...get a cleaning service! ask some of your other Mommy friends in your area and I am sure that they could give you a name of someone that they use!!

The light...awesome! What a great idea and it looks fabulous!

The closet...I would have never thought to do stripes in a closet, but I am thinking about it now!! I love it!

ps...get the housekeeper!! ;)

I'm loving the stripes. Comming from a land where labor is really inexpensive almost everyone I know (this includes my Mom, Sisters, friends, etc) back home has a housekeeper or cleaning lady.
MY MIL has one too and things ran so smoothly while where there. She also loved my little guy and watched him for a few hours while we ran errands. So worth it I say. Here it would be very difficult for me to find someone as OCD as I am.

I already said it on Twitter but this room is TOO CUTE! You HAVE been really busy - and it shows!

You definitely should get a housekeeper if you can; I can't imagine juggling 3 boys - you deserve it!

Wow, you've done a LOT! The room looks great!

A friend gave me this tip regarding housekeepers: she has a service come in twice a year to do a huge deep clean - tops of curtain rod cleaning, I call it - and then does the maintenance cleaning herself. Not as easy as having a regular service, but maintenance cleaning like sinks and toilets can be more easily chopped up into weekday slices than big cleaning, like scrubbing all your baseboards.

Anyway, to answer your question, we have a childcare provider who also helps with cleaning. When she is gone, I'm not sure what we're going to do. In fact, the thought scares me a little. :)

I'd love a house keeper - I'd a person to come in twice a month and clean clean! lol - but my problem would be, would I clean before they got here - so they don't think we too messy, when I have lots of projects going on??

Hopefully when your boys are in school you'll have a chance to breathe with just one at home, but then there's homework! Lots of homework! lol its never ending :)
