USING WHAT YOU HAVE (sneak peek of my living room!)

Last night while I was painting the last cabinet in my kitchen, I got the urge to pull together my living room on the fly using what I have.

For the past year, my living room had been bare. Ok, who am I kidding, it has been my catch all room when I’m working on projects! So last night when I saw one of the boys riding the back of my sofa like a horse, I decided right then that I had to make better use out of my living room and I started by moving the sofa in there. After pulling pieces from different rooms and from my garage, I ended up with this

I’m so excited to finally use this coffee table! I purchased it over a year ago from Dayka and a few days later the glass broke. I went to Lowes today and had a piece of Plexiglas cut for it (I have three boys, remember?!) and I am so happy!

I mean, I still have A LOT to do to say that this room is “finished”. I need to add some pictures and art to the walls. I need more pillows and I know exactly which ones I want! With the holidays knocking at the door, I had to do something fast. Next is the dining room and then I’m going to finish the kitchen which is really really close to being done. Using what you have is a great way to decorate when you’re in a hurry and on a limited budget (and believe me, my budget is teeny weeny!)…. So, what do you think?!

Hope you’re having a fabulous Monday!

Girl you did a great job! It looks so warm and cozy! And good for you for not buying anything! I need to get better at using what I have...

Wow, look at you go! Amazing what we can get done once we put our minds to it!! Your living room looks great! I laughed out loud when you wrote, "riding the back of my sofa like a horse"! LOL! Beautiful makeover Lakeitha, even better that you were able to decorate using items you already owned! Do you still have your purplish pillows that you put up for sale on your blog awhile ago? If so, I think they would look great in your room-just saying! : )

Looking good young lady! It's wonderful that you decided to use the things that you have already. It's like the 'ol saying when you buy things that you love they seem to always work together.

Thanks guys! Brandi, those pillows sold. They would look great there! Stay tuned, I have some other pillows in mind:)

It looks absolutely fabulous! It's amazing you had all that great stuff just lying around waiting to be used...I so wish I could do the same! Keep up the good work!

It looks great! I have that same rug and love it, neutral and works everywhere.
I like that it is simple and liveable! Can't imagine it needs anything more besides art.

It looks so wonderful and inviting! I love the little pops of color! That red tray is great on the sideboard, where is it from? I have been in search of a "special" tray for my coffee table. I can't believe you had all of that in your home! Everything is coming together beautifully! I need to get motivated to finish my projects.

YES! This room looks awesome! Ummm you want to sell me that red tray?! :-)

Man, I wish I could put something so polished together so quickly. I'm impressed, and more importantly I WANT those brass birds, that red tray, and I LOVE the use of the grey luggage by the door. Looks great!! Wanna stop by my house and move things around for me?

Seriously if thats using what you have, I'm coming shopping in your garage! LOVE that you just pulled this together, it looks like it took forever to do this! Rock on!

What? You did that on the fly using what you have? It looks just great, and I love your coffee table and I'm having yellow moments right now, so this is right up my alley!!!

You guys are so sweet! Thanks for your comments! Ok, it seems that a few of you are loving that red tray. I got that like two years ago from jcp for $10 on clearance. I had planned to paint it, but I think it works!

Thanks again!

Can I just say "HOLY CRAP"!! I rarely say that, but girl, at first I thought you were posting an inspiration picture. This is just fabulous, and with stuff you have? Can you come finish my bonus room with that same approach?

So glad you were able to work it out. I feel that I am always living in a transitional space. As soon as I get it decorated, I have to move. Maybe next time, I'll just go through our storage and pull something together. Wish me luck!

Lakeitha, you definitely rock this living room! It doesn't look like you decorate on a whim because it looks very pull together!

Great job, Lakeitha! I love so many things from here, the rug, the pair of table lamps, the birdcage and the blue dresser. Looking forward to see future projects! :)

Have a lovely day!

I love your couch...and the colors, and how it all looks together....if you can just "throw that together" on a whim, I can't imagine what would happen if it were planned in advance!! Looks beautiful.

Man, I love that blue dresser!! I have been stalking craigslist for something similar to paint blue. I am in awe that you had all that beautiful stuff laying around your house! Can't wait to see your kitchen if you are making it over.

I just saw this at Isabella and Max...
I was totally amazed by your design for your living room!

It looks great and so pulled together. You used what you have and OBVIOUSLY what you LOVED; because this stuff was already in your house...so you must like it! It all looks fabulous together.

Great job!
