I'M NO COLOR EXPERT

I have no clue as to finding a good color. Have you noticed? I'm always complaining about not having the right colors in my home. With my bedroom, I refuse to have that problem. I went out on a very wet, very cold, very windy morning and purchased 4 samples of paint. Colors that I just knew were going to be the bee knees, but what happened to these pretty colors when I tested them on my walls....

...BLAH

None of them were a success. I'm trying again and hopefully I'll have a color to share with you after Christmas.

Boy do I suck...

Don't feel bad. Picking colors can be really hard! I just painted my office twice because the first color was all wrong (and I do this professionally!) A few ideas...look at a room you really love (in a magazine or on the blogs) and steal that paint color. Stores can color match almost anything, so if you have a fabric or mug or whatever with a color you like, have them match that. Also, if this is for a bedroom and your planning on purchasing new bedding, get the beddgin first and pick the match to match. It's much hard to match bedding once the walls are painted. Just some thoughts! Good luck and happy painting.

Ha, clearly I wasn't paying attention to what I was typing! I meant, pick a paint to match. And it's bedding, not beddgin.

HA HA HA!!! And I'm not laughing at you or your paint choices...I'm laughing at your posting "Boy do I suck..." That is brave.

No you don't!! Paint color is truly about the hardest thing to do. The chips always look different in the store and never look the same on the wall...it is a crapshoot. In time you'll get familar with different colors and how they will work in various spaces, the guessing game will get refined.

What is the mood you are going for? Have you picked anything else out for the room, besides the lamps? Bedding, artwork, window treatments? Those may give you a hint of what direction to take.

Oh, here's a tip. Paint a large area of the wall with primer so you can see the colors you are testing accurately. Right now you are seeing your swatches on the existing wall color which is throwing how the tests look. I learned this the hard way...(painting a kitchen four times, in a week, completely painting every inch of wall surface. Do you know what a pain that is?!!) After that I could have certainly written "Boy do I suck!"

You don't suck...you are fab. What a great idea to get samples and do what you are doing. When you find what you like, you'll know. BTW, Annette is fine, but says she's uninspired. Think the holidays are overshadowing creativity. I told her to post on that just to get the comments and suggestions.

Merry Christmas Ms. Janell! Again, I agree with the Great Janell. I had the kitchen painted professional last summer (in a hurry) and it was just a hint off. But then I saw your kitchen and loved it(the red color), thought I could do it too (cause I was angry with my husband that day). And realized it worked for you because you had an open space kitchen. So this time, I went to my local Janell (her name is JMell) in a panic and she saved the day..by giving me this advice.
What are you feeling? And then seek advice surrounding your absolutely favorite color (even if it's neon green). Your space in your sanctuary! Trust me I could sleep on my kitchen floor!
