PAINTING A DOOR

I posted this back in November when my house was being painted. At the time, I really wanted a red door, but as mentioned below I chickened out!

I love a nicely painted front door...

Especially when the color is a bold choice...

But a more traditional color is great too...

It's just something about an unexpected color choice that makes a statement and shows a little more personality!

Originally, I planned to paint my front door Rustic red

But when it was time to paint it, I chickened out. I worried that my future outside decor would have to work well with a red door and I couldn't stand the thought of being limited.

So instead I went with brown. Plain. Simple. Brown. A color that would not clash against many of the colors I like to decorate with. Now I wonder if that was a good idea. I feel like that little pop of color was needed. And without it my color choice fell flat. What's wrong with me?!!

What color is your door? Have you ever had a problem decorating around the color of your door? What are your thoughts on this matter?

MY DOOR IS DEFINITELY GOING RED THIS WEEKEND!

You just MADE MY DAY! I am sooooooo excited! You have NO idea! As a single mom, I have NO magazine subscriptions. It's just one of those 'extra' costs that got dropped while raising kids, working on a state salary and furlough days this year. I am truly HONORED to have won!

Oh, what a great comment by the winner Sherri S!! Glad you made her day!

Door color, it looks great. You can always easily change it down the road if you decide you want to. I myself would love an interesting color for my door, probably would have to go through the homeowners association with all kinds of documentation about why a change in color would be appropriate...so I know for certain a Turquoise Front Door is nowhere in my near future!! It is currently a walnut brown.

In San Francisco I had a purple door. A light creamy main exterior color with a strong violet undertone, with purple trim and door. Super fun, but you can get away with that in SF!!

Have a great one...Janell

I love the green door and the yellow, too. When I repaint my house I want a glossy yellow door just like that. The good thing about your down is that it will be easy to paint in the future, if you choose to do so. Mine is a plain cream color, but that's because my house is an awful periwinkle blue (It was like this when I moved in). Btw, did you get my email from a few days ago?

Sherri - what a great share. I feel your pain and am, too, glad you were blessed. Good work, LD. Very nice, indeed!

Congratulations to Sherri S.!!

Your door looks good, but I hope you don't mind me saying that I think I'd like the RED better. ;-)

Have a great day!

p.s. my door is mandated to be a dark brown. (We live in a townhome.) But, that's fine with me - one less decision to have to make.

You know with a door that color you can always do all kinds of things:) I added a kickplate to my door at my old townhouse. What about adding some neat big house numbers on the door like MysweetSavannah has done! Have you ever checked out her blog, I bet! I am thinking all your tranformations you are doing with the house are turning out great! Don't second guess yourself:) Your doing a fab job, darling.

Love the red....a soft warm robin's egg blue would look nice too. (paint your metal door trim as well so you don't lose your door size). You could visit your local Lowes, Home Depot or garden shop and buy two glazed pots (red tones for red door...or blue for blue.)..and place one between your garage doors and one beneath the front window (that one would need to be large). I love when bloggers share....Please post the final.....I'm following! K

I rent, so the color of my door is black. I can see why you went with a safe color. Especially since you own your home. Are you thinking of putting up wreaths on the door at all?

p.s. I saw this post..

http://strictlysimplestyle.blogspot.com/2010/04/easiest-window-update-ever.html

and immediately went to Target's website to find some patterns that would mesh well with my home. I found one(Suzani Tablecloth)that just made me immediately think of your room colors. I just love the colors you chose. Love them :o)

I have a red door and it kind of just blends in. Mine is more of a deep burgundy red? Or it was. It's been a few years and it has weathered. It's probably time to paint it again and I am considering other possibilities.

You should go with red if that's what your knee jerk tells you. You can always paint it over!

My door is glossy burgundy and I actually hate it. I want black or mustard yellow. Not sure yet.

I love bright, fun doors. But my door is brown wood. On a boring white house. Just not brave enough.
