Yesterday I asked on twitter if I should paint the mirror I scored from my sister inlaw. I love gold and brass, but this just seem off to me. Maybe the gold is to bright with the teal dresser for me. Or maybe I think it should go in my bedroom. Not sure…
So today, I wanted to ask you guys:
Should I paint this mirror?
This mirror is pretty large (to me), but the wall it’s on made it seem small. Plus if you notice in the first picture the angle of the ceiling just made the placement of the mirror seem off.
What do you guys think? Maybe I should place something different above the dresser.

Lakeitha, I love that mirror but I agree, it looks small on this wall and odd with the ceiling placement. Since this is in your family room how about a grid of photos above the dresser, like the one you posted here

- botanical prints seem to be all the rage right now or an eclectic gallery wall something like this

I think the mirror would be very regal in your MB :)
I have a (gold) narrow mirror that I laahove but used it in sort of a "gallery wall" above our sofa ...
Here's a possibly odd suggestion - but I'm going there - what if you tried hanging it upside down?
I clicked on your blog update because of this color combo -"teal" and gold- love it!
I love it! I'll be honest though, I don't think I'd paint it....I think it would look great as is in your bedroom against those chocolate brown walls, but it also looks great with the teal. I agree though that it seems a bit lost on the wall its currently on....maybe if you had some sconces or tall lamps on either side of it?
I love the mirror but agree that it should be painted. Since this is your family room I would display some fun pic's of the family vacation. The mirror painted and added to your Master bedroom. foyer or master washroom may work great. Good Luck and let us know what you decide.
I love the mirror and thinks it needs a bold contrasting color to offset the neutral walls. BUt over the dresser, i think you need a large print, also w/ bright colors to compliment the dresser.
Honestly, I think it looks fine with the dresser and even with the angle of the ceiling. It ties in nicely with the pulls on your dresser. What's off (at least to me) is that it's not centered directly over the dresser and I think that's throwing everything else off. Try moving the dresser a few inches to the left...it'll center up with the mirror, won't be so crowded in the corner next to the railing, and I think it'll come together.
Just a thought...
I think the mirror might look better against your bedroom walls since they are a darker brown ---
Currently attempting to remove paint from a brass light fixture I painted a couple years ago, I bet my vote is predictable!!!!! I would opt to tone down the gold tone if it is too bright for your taste (which will change, also a lesson learned this week!) I would suggest you try rubbing on a bit of rub n' buff in a cooler gold tone. The product comes in several tones, available at Michaels.

I think the mirror and dresser like they are seem at odds. But if it was "dressed" it could totally work as is.
I think I'd paint it...maybe white? And this may sound weird, but what if you hung it upside down...so the fuller part is to the bottom? It looked good when I turned my computer upside down! :-)
Or what if you just sort of toned it down...made it look more dirty and old?
I love the mirror the way it is...definitely goes with the hardware on the dresser.
I say leave it as is. I really like it. I'd probably move it to another location in the house, though.
